Sveza Group, a leading Russian forest industry company and the world’s largest manufacturer of birch plywood, was ranked #6 in the Developing Practice category of the 2021 ranking Leaders of Corporate Philanthropy. The ranking criteria included philanthropic activity, approach to social investment, and transparency.
Association of grantmaking organizations Russian Donors Forum supported, among other partners, by the Federation Council of Russia, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education, the Russian Ministry of Culture, and the Russian Ministry of Economic Development, published the 2021 ranking Leaders of Corporate Philanthropy. A national panel of experts evaluated more than 100 projects by socially responsible Russian companies.
Sveza Group made to the sixth position in the C+ (Developing Practice) category of the ranking. There are six categories: А+ (Leaders), А (Best Practice), В+ (Advanced Practice), В (Good Practice), С+ (Developing Practice), С (Practice Taking Shape).
The experts evaluated criteria such as the approach to corporate philanthropy and social investment, corporate philanthropy management and organization, engagement with stakeholders, efficiency and maturity of philanthropy programs, and the related public communications policies of the applicants.
In 2021, 66 Russian-based companies applied for the ranking, out of them 44 made it to the final list. A record number of 101 projects were submitted for the competition. 39 applicants disclosed their spending on social and philanthropy initiatives.
“Sveza has always placed great focus on implementing social programs in the regions where it operates, supporting local communities and certain categories of citizens, and taking part in the local governments’ initiatives. However, starting this year, we have revised our strategy and moved from one-off charity projects to comprehensive socioeconomic development programs. This has allowed us to approach a greater number of social issues and prioritize our initiatives in accordance with the communities’ needs”, says Valentina Likhacheva, Director of Corporate Communications and Sustainable Development at Sveza.
