12 August 2021

Sveza, the world leader in birch plywood production, increased all of its key figures in the first half of 2021. Compared to the first half of 2020, sales increased by 7% and production volumes by 11%. In addition, the company set records in new customer acquisition, the share of direct sales and the share of value-added products.

In January-June 2021, Sveza's sales volume was 655 thousand m3, which was 7% higher than in the first half of 2020. During the reporting period, the company produced 662 thousand m3 of products, exceeding the figures for the same period last year by 11%.

“Sveza” was active in customer acquisition - the company signed up contracts with more than 100 new customers, which is the highest record for the past five years. The number of active customers has amounted to almost 600 companies, having increased by 28% compared to the first half of 2020. Another key indicator has also grown - direct sales. Their share has amounted to 24%, which is 9 p.p. higher than in the first six months of 2020. This rate is also the highest in the history of the company.

The share of customized products has also increased - in January-June 2021 the share of the high value-added plywood amounted 10% in the total sales volume, setting up another corporative record and showing growth on 4 p.p. to the same period of the last year. First of all, the production of plywood for transportation of liquefied natural gas has increased - “Sveza” is the only manufacturer in Russia and one of the four manufacturers in the world that is certified under all three GTT systems (engineering company, an expert in the field of sealing systems using low-temperature membranes used for the transportation and storage of LNG). The production volumes of products with UV-coating, CNC-processing, specialized products in the segments of furniture and interior, land transport, construction have also increased. Moreover, in the first half of the year, the company launched the production of large format 5x11 feet plywood.

“At the beginning of the year, the global and Russian economies were actively recovering from the shocks of last year, this is clearly seen in the activity of our customers, who managed to adapt to the conditions of the pandemic and increased the volume of orders. It can be also pointed out that we have seriously increased the volume of sales of complex customized products. This backlog will be especially important for the company - we see that in the second half of the year the global demand for the products of the entire timber industry, including plywood, will stabilize, and the rapid growth of the first half of this year is slowing down”, commented Anatoly Frishman, Chief Officer of “Sveza”.

Additionally, the company was actively developing its investment program. The volume of “Sveza's” investments in production in the first half of 2021 was about 1 billion rubles. The largest projects where these funds were directed were the construction of an R&D center, projects for the technical re-equipment of mills, including such global ones as “Novator +52” (the top regional investment project to expand existing capacities and implementation of the new ones with a total investment of more than 6 billion rubles), as well as initiatives to improve safety and working conditions.
